The MSU Museum and the MSU Native American Institute invite you to a night of inspiration, culture, and music at Communication Arts and sciences Rm 145 (404 Willson Road, East Lansing, MI, 48824). Join Daniel Jackson, a part of Bear Clan and proud member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan (SCIT), to explore the traditions and meanings behind drum making and playing in Native cultures. Daniel will share his insights on the importance of drums and how deeply the rhythms connect with the spirituality and culture of Native American communities, especially throughout his family’s legacy within the Powwow circle. Be sure to try some traditional foods after the talk.
After the talk, don’t forget to sign up to come and make a traditional drum yourself! This will take place on 11/22/2025 over the course of two sessions at The Nokomois Center, 5153 Marsh Rd, Okemos, MI 48864. Sign up soon as spots are limited!
